✅ October 25, National Fossil Day – Honoring Earth’s Ancient Heritage
🔷 The main goal of designating and celebrating such a day is to promote greater understanding of fossils and paleontology — from students to the general public — and to highlight the applications of this science in exploring Earth’s history, the evolution of life, the discovery of hydrocarbon resources, and in strengthening the connection between specialists in this fundamental field and society at large.
🔷 This year’s theme emphasizes the protection and conservation of Earth’s natural heritage through a new slogan:
“Protecting Paleobiodiversity: An Approach Toward Responsible Geotourism.”
Let us learn about fossils, protect them responsibly, and ensure their sustainable use.
🔸 The chosen symbol for the 2025، National Fossil Day logo is the fossil of a valuable echinoid species (from the phylum Echinodermata) known scientifically as Goniopygus superbus.
This beautiful fossil dates back to the Campanian stage of the Cretaceous period, approximately 75 million years ago, representing the remarkable paleobiodiversity of ancient Iran.
