National registration of Malvand village fossil site

?️Director of Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark said: Malvand village fossil site was registered in the Iran natural heritage list on June 18, 2023 after the final review in the registry office of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.

?️The application of this fossil site was prepared by Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark experts and registered with the cooperation of the General Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of South Khorasan.

?️The coral fossils of this village are exposed in the Upper Jurassic limestones (150-163 million years ago) on the northern slope of Kuh-e Asiyab (Mount Asiyab). This fossil site will be introduced as one of the geosites of Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark in the near future.

?️The management of Tabas Global Geopark thanks the efforts and interest of the rural governor and Melvand village council in order to introduce and pursue the national registration of this valuable fossil site.
