🔸 The Traditional Muharram Mourning Rituals: A Unique Capacity within the Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark
🔷 The CEO and a number of members of the Abolfazli Heyat Institute of Tabas (Religious Mourning Committee) visited the Visitor Center and Museum of the Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark, touring various sections of the complex. During a meeting with the Geopark’s director and experts, they became acquainted with the activities, objectives, and achievements of this center.
During the meeting, Dr. Vesal Yahya Sheibani, Director of the Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark, along with the Geopark’s experts, elaborated on the goals, programs, international status, and the role of the Geopark in presenting the natural, historical, and cultural capacities of the region at national and international levels.
🔹 Mahmoud Abbasian Farhabakhsh, CEO of the Abolfazli Heyat Institute of Tabas (Religious Mourning Committee), expressed his appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark team in introducing this valuable national and international asset, and announced the institute’s readiness for cultural and social cooperation.
🔹 A significant part of the meeting was devoted to discussion and exchange of views on the role of intangible cultural heritage, particularly the traditional mourning rituals of the people of Tabas during the month of Muharram. Rituals such as Nakhl-gardani (traditional Nakhl-carrying ritual) were recognized as enduring expressions of the Ashura culture of Tabas and as a valuable capacity for introducing the religious and cultural identity of this county at the global level.
