Tabas UGGp as a National Model

In line with assessing capacities and benefiting from successful national experiences in the field of geoparks, Tabas UGGp hosted a group of senior officials from Kerman Province. The visit aimed to gain firsthand familiarity with, and practical experience from, the process of establishment and management of Tabas UGGp, to be utilized on Kerman Province’s path toward becoming a geopark.

According to the Public Relations Office of Tabas UGGp, participants in this visit included Dr. Vahidi, Head of the Kerman Province Management and Planning Organization; Dr. Soleimani, Deputy Head of the same organization; Dr. Ghorbani Dehnavi, Director General of Geology and Mineral Exploration of Kerman Province; and Mr. Ameri, Head of Administrative and Financial Affairs of the Kerman Province Department of Geology and Mineral Exploration.

During the program, a specialized session focused on experience transfer and guidance regarding the geopark designation process was held, attended by Dr. Ashrafian, Deputy Governor and Special Governor of Tabas County. In his remarks, he referred to the valuable achievements of Tabas UGGp, describing it as a major and significant success, and emphasized its effective role in sustainable development, showcasing natural capacities, and boosting tourism in the region.

Following this session, Dr. Vesal Yahya Sheibani, Manager of Tabas UGGp, described the geopark as a successful model for other counties and provinces across the country. By outlining the process of its formation, management, and achievements, he announced the readiness of Tabas UGGp to cooperate with and transfer experience to other provinces on their path toward geopark designation.

Members of the Kerman delegation also visited the Tabas Geopark Visitor Center and Museum, becoming closely acquainted with the executive structure, educational activities, and methods of presenting geosites. A field visit to the Kal Jeni Geosite, managed by Engineer Javaheri and Engineer Bandegi, was another part of the program.

With its wide range of geological and natural attractions, alongside valuable cultural and historical heritage, Kerman Province possesses high capacity and potential to become a geopark. This visit and specialized meeting are considered an effective step toward understanding the requirements and standards, and toward utilizing the successful experiences of Tabas UGGp to achieve this goal.

It is worth noting that this delegation traveled to the region with the aim of receiving guidance from Tabas UGGp and gaining practical familiarity with its processes and infrastructure, in order to make use of these experiences on the path toward geopark designation for Kerman Province.
