Intangible Cultural Heritage of Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark
🔹Intangible heritage, or cultural and spiritual heritage, is one of the most valuable cultural treasures of any region, rooted in the civilization and history of that area. This heritage encompasses a wide range of local arts, traditional rituals, religious ceremonies, national festivals and events, skills and handicrafts—including the Nakhl-Gardani ritual.
🔹The city of Tabas, with its deep cultural roots and strong historical background, preserves many valuable spiritual legacies from the past.
🔹The Nakhl-Gardani ritual is one of the intangible cultural and spiritual heritages of Tabas. Thanks to the presence of the holy shrine of Hussein ibn Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) and its deep-rooted religious customs and traditions, Tabas has become a major religious tourism hub in eastern Iran. The first ten days of Muharram are commemorated in Tabas with unique and profound passion.
🔹One of the main goals of Global Geoparks is to preserve intangible and cultural heritage. A key feature of such heritage from the Geopark perspective is its intergenerational transmission across various regions of the world.
