Two-year goal of globalizing Tabas Geopark

• After Qeshm World Geopark as Iran’s only geopark and one of the most unique geoparks in the world, it is home to several geological parks and geological parks due to its proximity to the beautiful coasts of the Persian Gulf and the mangrove forest. Iran has become, now through its extraordinary attractions, Tabas is set to be targeted as Iran’s third geopark.

• A member of the UNESCO Supreme Council for Global Geoparks considers local sovereignty and the support of sponsors and people interested in the subject in Tabas a strong point for the creation of a global geopark.

• “Tabas has gone half way and a one-year plan at the national level and a two-year plan at the global level to achieve that goal,” says Amri Kazemi.

• Referring to the beautiful attractions of the area, he points out: Tabas has wonderful and eco-friendly resorts, and cultural and historical issues need to be well coordinated, while Imam Zadeh can be the heart of Tabas World Geopark. He said: “On this basis, we urge all organizations to cooperate, as Tabas as an exemplary tourism area will be able to introduce itself to the world and benefit from the presence of specialized tourists in the area.”

• According to him, the Geological Survey identified three areas within five years, and Tabas was one of those areas that was considered a definitive potential for the creation of global geoparks.

• He noted: In Iran, a geo-park is registered in Qeshm city of Hormozgan province, which is one of the very good UNESCO geoparks, and in general, 5 geo-parks are registered on the UNESCO site, which are scattered all over the world.

• “The goal is to start work on a smaller scale and to extend it to the whole country in the development phases,” he said.
