Tabas Museum of Anthropology was established in 2015 by changing the use of the Emadol Molki endowment property known as “Baghe Khan” with an area of approximately 4400 m2 and in a space with an infrastructure of nearly 600 m2. “Baghe Khan” complex is a historical garden left from the Safavid era. The main building of the garden, dating back to the Safavid to Qajar era, was completely destroyed in Tabas earthquake on September, 16, 1978. After the earthquake, the National Iranian Oil Company constructed the present building with a traditional design and under the name of a museum to prevent the loss of historical and cultural property of Tabas. The use of the building was then changed to a public bath to address the needs of the people affected by the earthquake. This public bath was used by the people until 2005, when it was abandoned due to the progress of urban construction and the development of modern residential houses.
This museum is currently one of the most attractive sights and tourist attractions of Tabas city, with about 500 objects, including practical tools, household appliances, and occupational instruments used by the people of the region. Tabas Museum of Anthropology opens a door to the knowledge of the people’s lifestyle in this region of Iran, delicately displaying their customs, culture, and traditions. Many tools and objects of this museum have been donated by the culture-loving residents of Tabas.
