Geographical and Geologic Location
Kal-e-Jenni is a beautiful, amazing, and unique valley located 27 km north of Tabas along the Tabas – Boshruyeh road. This valley with a length of 9 km starts from the western part of Ezmighan village and ends in Tabas plain while crossing the western slopes of the Shotori Mountain Range. Kal-e-Jenni originated in two mountainous parts of the Shotori Mountain Range and the Tabas Plain. Its oldest rocks belong to 145-163 million years ago, and the youngest rocks date back to 2.5 million years ago. The height of the walls of this valley exceeds 40 meters in the Tabas plain and reaches 100 meters in mountainous parts.
Geosite Attractions
Given the sedimentary structural conditions of Tabas and the formation of this geosite in various geological formations along with the ancient history of this area, it offers a wide range of geological, cultural, historical, and natural attractions. Angular unconformity of Neogene sediments with Quaternary alluviums, hoodoo, honeycomb weathering (Tafoni), various sedimentary structures, river captivity, etc. are an important part of the geological attractions of this amazing valley. Also, the ancient houses of Gabr (Zoroastrians) – belonging to the Sassanid period – and the aqueduct are among the cultural and historical attractions of Kal-e-Jenni, indicating the knowledge of the predecessors about the type of sediments and valley walls and representing part of unique engineering geology. Another natural attraction of Kal-e-Jenni Geosite is the constant water flow in its bed, leading to the growth of a large number of different plants, adding to the beauty of this valley, and contributing to its animal diversity. Snakes, large-scaled agamas and lizards, wild pigeons, partridges, owls, etc. are among its animals.
