Ammonite statue

This product is inspired by the ammonite fossil – a gem from the heart of the Earth and a symbol of millions of years of natural transformation and evolution. Ammonites were marine mollusks that lived during the Mesozoic Era, around 150 to 170 million years ago, in the calm and deep waters of the ancient sea of Tabas. The fossils they left behind are now recognized as one of the most remarkable geological evidences of Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark, narrating a fascinating story of Earth’s history, life, and evolution.

Inspired by this precious fossil, this authentic handcrafted artwork has been brought to life through the traditional Pakhal-weaving technique. It is woven by the UNESCO Global Geopark Tabas partner, the artisans of Niour art house, whose art is deeply rooted in the culture and nature of the desert, with every strand infused with love for the Earth and its beauty.

This creation forms a bridge between Earth and humankind, science and art, past and future – a timeless reminder of the enduring bond between the natural and cultural heritage of Tabas. Every weave holds a trace of time, and every pattern is a memory of the ancient sea that once rippled across this vast desert.

Collection: Kolombazi

Material: Glazed Ceramic

Inspired by the traditional dome architecture which had been typical in desert climatic areas like Tabas, the artist has designed a collection of applied handmade works by clay. Meaning “roof”, Kolombazi is a local name used for describing any kind of roofs in Tabas region. But the artist is intentionally applying it to a special kind of roof which was popular here in the near past. The purpose behind the design of such an applied product is an attempt to maintain the historical, cultural and architectural literature and forms in the region. Domes were broadly used in Kavir areas in order to reduce indoor heat, provide an appropriate lighting and enhance the building’s resistance to damage.
