Dencoo is an abbreviation of Daneh-Koob, a shortened compound participial adjective meaning “grain crusher.”

Dencoo Store is one of the partners of the Tabas UGGp, actively involved in producing various types of oils (edible, non-edible, and medicinal), herbal teas, dried fruits, herbal distillates, and more. One of the most important features of this store’s products is the production of 100% natural and pure oils, prepared using cold-press technology and offered to the market. Other products, such as herbal teas, raw materials for distillates, vinegars, syrups, etc., are all sourced from the mountains and orchards of the Tabas region and are completely organic and natural.

Before the Tabas earthquake, there were people who practiced this profession. The tools used included a wooden beam about three meters long, with a stone or iron weight attached to one end. This beam was installed like a seesaw in the middle of the shop, and a small pit about half a meter deep was dug under the weighted end. Wheat or barley was placed into this pit, and one or two men stood on the opposite end of the beam.

When the men stepped on the free end, the weighted end would rise due to the seesaw action. Upon removing their feet, the weighted end would fall rapidly, striking the pit and crushing the grains. Through repetition, the wheat grains were thoroughly crushed.

This process and profession were called Dankoubi in Tabas, and a person who practiced it was called a Dencoo.
In the village of Khanik (near Ezmighan), Dencoo was also used to remove rice husks, and the original Dencoo site still remains untouched today.
